Doug and Ruth Broadfoot and the Broadstrider Whippets are located in Tomball, Texas, northwest of Houston.

We acquired our first whippet from the famous Sporting Fields kennel in 1972. We became interested in showing in the late 1970s and have remained active in showing and breeding whippets ever since.

Our early breeding was based on the legendary Stoney Meadows and Morshor lines. Our whippets today still go back to Morshor, and the Plumcreek lines of Linda Larson.

Over the years we have also collaborated with Ray and Barbara Parsons (Raybar). We acquired our foundation bitch, “Betsy” (Aymes N Raybar's Miss Oceana), from Ray and Barbara in the mid-1980s. Soon after, we returned the favor by placing with them one of Betsy’s puppies sired by Ch. Hamrya’s Lucky Charm, SC, F Ch, ROM. That was “Chip,” one of our all time mutual favorites (Ch. Broadstrider By George, ROMX).

We love the aesthetic beauty of our breed with its keen expression, characteristic S-curves and daisy-clipping gait. We are mindful, though, that form follows function and that the whippet’s athletic ability cannot be compromised. In addition, we are committed to honor moderation as called for in the breed standard. Above all, our whippets are loving companions; overall soundness and good temperaments are of prime importance.

Broadstrider is strictly a hobby kennel. Although we only breed about one litter every two years, puppies and young adults are sometimes available to qualified homes.
